The Web Hosting Blog

Why is web hosting still so complicated?

After celebrating #BackToTheFutureDay and comparing futuristic products to reality, we realized that there are still no self-lacing sneakers. But the future is still here as we manage our bank accounts directly on our smartphones, and can get pretty much everything delivered at our doors in a few clicks. Still, some things are unchanged.

Web hosting is one of them.

Even though web hosting is a must for millions of people who need to promote their companies, services, and projects, being [...]

Anything planned for Friday, November 27? A lot of companies are already planning for “Black Friday”, a day dedicated to good deals, rebates and impressive promotions. For most people, it’s one of the main events of the end of the year. For businesses, it’s one of the most important days of the last quarter of the year.

Thousands of people are looking forward to Black Friday, which makes it a key date if you sell your products online. Here are [...]

Even more extensions for your domain names!

In the last couple years, the internet has changed and opened itself. We said goodbye to the limited possibilities of .com, .net or .ca domain names. The new gTLDs (for “Generic Top-Level Domains”) offer almost infinite possibilities when it comes to choose your domain name. In other words, you won’t have to spend hours looking for the right domain name because nothing is available for your website or project.

New domain names, what for?

This is an initiative from ICANN [...]

Why a VPS is the best solution for web hosting resellers

What are web hosting resellers looking for? We often hear they want a reliable, fast and easy to manage solution. Whether it is for 25, 200 or 2000 clients, a reseller has to make sure he provides safe and reliable hosting. VPS hosting (for “Virtual Private Server”) is a perfect answer to those needs. Why?

Flexibility is your best friend

A VPS is just like a dedicated server. You have a dedicated IP address [...]

Web hosting resellers, do you have a .host domain name?

New domain name extensions have been available for several weeks. These new features are a great way to create short, efficient and easy to remember domain names. What could be better than a .help extension for a knowledge base or a FAQ? The new extensions allow you to categorize your business and your activity. It would be too bad to miss out on these ways to improve your branding!

Among these new extensions, .host is one of the most interesting [...]

Python and Ruby now available on Funio’s servers!

Nowadays, more and more platforms and sites are designed with Python and Ruby. These programming languages are the go-to choices for developers, startups and a lot of companies. Why? Because Python and Ruby offer two frameworks, respectively Django and Ruby on Rails, which are great solutions for developing web applications.

For instance, sites such as Airbnb, Basecamp, Bloomberg, Fiverr, Kickstarter or Couchsurfing are created with Ruby on Rails. Instagram, The Onion or Pinterest are designed using Django.

Ruby on Rails [...]

More SSL security on Funio’s web servers

Security has always been one of Funio’s priorities, and we are always looking for ways to improve our applications and processes to provide more security to our clients.

In August, we proceeded to an upgrade of the Apache service on our web servers to offer improved security for clients using SSL certificates. No worries, you won’t have to change or do anything on your account. Also, please note that this upgrade only concerns clients with the new Funio web hosting plans. [...]

Why You Should Update Your CMS

“Should I install the updates of WordPress? What about the themes and plugins?” Those are pretty common questions, and the answer should always be the same. It should be “yes!” This is also true for other CMS such as Joomla and Drupal. According to WPBeginner, 83% of hacked WordPress sites are not up to date. Not updating your CMS is pretty much like leaving the door wide open for hackers.

A security matter

WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal are the main [...]

More flexibility with Funio’s new Shared Web Hosting Plans!

For fifteen years, Funio’s shared web hosting made thousands of customers satisfied. Today, we are proud to announce that we expanded the range of our offer with four new Shared Web Hosting plans.

Before, our shared hosting plan offered an all-inclusive package. However, we quickly understood that each customer has different needs. Bloggers might not require the same services from their hosting service than a company, or than a graphic designer trying to publish his portfolio [...]

Funio.com Gets a Makeover and Redefines Its Image

What better way to redefine one’s image than launching a brand new website. With the recent launch of our new VPS product line, we wanted to look like the serious (yet fun) company that we are. Funio.com is barely recognizable!

We are gradually standardizing all our interfaces to this new look. Soon, it’ll be the turn of our Customer Hub, our newsletter, our blog and our welcome emails. Our website is now [...]
