In order to start 2015 with a bang and kickstart rather big projects here at Funio, we have browsed the internets to find the rare diamond. That’s where Guillaume appeared on our radar. We have many projects that require his expertise, and within a few months working with us, he has already proven that we did not poorly choose our additional web programmer.
In order to get acquainted with Guillaume and explain what he does, we’re giving him the mic. Honestly, putting him in the spotlight is also kind of his initiation!
How did you hear about Funio ?
On a full moon night, a vision of three wolves howling at the stars woke me up. I shook it off and started my morning routine. When I got to job browsing on Linkedin, I noticed Funio’s profile and that they were looking for someone with my skills. That’s when I heard an echo of the wolves…
But seriously, I was simply looking for a job in my domain and it was a happy coincidence that Funio was recruiting. The company’s profile was appealing to me and so I did like anyone looking for work would do. Fortunately, Funio and I “clicked”.
What does a front end developer do?
A front end developer strives when it comes to marrying programming and design. It’s through the harmonization of both these domains of expertise that he will blossom. Contrarily to a backend programmer, I concentrate primarily on the customer’s experience and his usage of the interface. I am definitely more interested in the aesthetics and the dynamics of Web programming, because it allows me to give life to a project through user experience.
How did you obtain the skills required to take over this position?
I’ve always been an adept of self-teaching, therefore the web has always been somewhat of a logical space to dwell in because of its unmeasurable amount of information. I have always had a great deal of interest in the Web. My studies in multimedia have only solidified this passion. It’s mostly by spending time experimenting what I was reading on the internet that I have acquired and honed my skills.
I also had the opportunity to take on contracts early during the evolution of my skills, which has greatly helped me to become better and better at what I do. Now, it’s by staying hooked on the Web that I keep on improving. Anyone in my position knows that you must keep up with the latest web developments and practices to succeed.
What do you actually do at Funio, or what’s the big project you’re working on?
It’s with my proficiency in mobile development that I have started my new position with Funio. Indeed, a good chunk of the work I am doing right now is transforming all Funio platforms to become more accessible on mobiles. We are planning that by the end of the year all our interfaces will be mobile-friendly, in addition to providing a Funio mobile app… but I can’t say more than that for now!
Additionally, I am progressively improving small design details here and there, as well as improving reactivity and user-friendliness of our interfaces. Let’s just say I don’t get to be bored here!
Outside of your professional activities, what passionates you?
I’m obviously passionate about technologies in general, especially those that have the capacity to improve our lives. That does not prevent me from loving the outdoors and getting dirty. For example, I recently participated in a reforestation project and the construction of self-sufficient homes.
