PHP Update: Version 5.6 Now Official

Since July 2014, Funio provides you with the opportunity to use PHP 5.6. Since this version has been thoroughly tested and has proven its worth, it is now the official PHP release version, therefore also making it Funio’s official version too! This means that any new Funio hosting plan is configured with PHP 5.6 by default.

We believe it is important to remain at the forefront of new Web trends, as much for us as for our customers. We strongly encourage all our customers to start using PHP 5.6, the most efficient version to date!

PHP 5.6 Advantages

For your convenience, PHP modules required by the most popular CMS (Content Management Systems) are activated by default. Certain modules are inactive, but can be activated manually by our customers. To view current PHP values and active modules on your account, this article from our knowledge base should help you out.

PHP 5.5 and 5.6 are versions that have proven to be more efficient than their predecessors. Our IT staff highly recommends using these versions, because websites programmed with PHP 5.5 and 5.6 have much better loading times and require less server resource. Recommended Update For PHP 5.2 & 5.3 Users

If your website is still working under PHP 5.2 or 5.3, you should consider upgrading to a more recent version very soon. Those versions are no longer supported by PHP and no longer know any security updates. Please note that version 5.4 will continue being supported by PHP until September 2015.

There are always risks to an update, which is why Funio still provides the possibility to use PHP 5.2 and 5.3. However, we can no longer guarantee the proper functioning of sites still using these versions.

Finally, we would also like to recommend that if you use a CMS like WordPress, Joomla, Magento, etc., that you verify what PHP version is recommended for the version of the CMS you are using. Obviously, updating your CMS should be the first step.
