Recognizing Phishing Attempts

We have noticed yesterday that several of our customers received Phishing emails attempting to get them to enter their access credentials to a fake Customer Hub.

Funio, like any company with a secure website, is occasionally the subject of phishing scams that aim to trick its customers into giving personal through email or on an unsecured website.

Phishing

Phishing emails will usually ask to send personal information in an email reply, or link you to an illegitimate website that looks like the real thing. Then they often try to trick you into entering personal and secure information in a login page.

Protect Yourself : Be Vigilant

In order to protect yourself from phishing scams, there are many things you can examine to ensure you are dealing with a legitimate authority and not fraudulent entities.

  1. Before entering your username and password, make sure that you are in a secured page. You can identify if a site is secure by looking at the site’s address (URL) that would start with “https://” instead of “http://”, and verifying it contains the image of a padlock. Credible sites always use an SSL certificate to encrypt data transmitted through a form.
  2. Identify the domain name of the website that you are visiting. The domain name is always located before the first “/”, excluding the ones after http. For example, in the URL http://abc.123.xyz.456.funio.com/test/, the domain name is “funio.com”. By using this method you will know that you are located on a section of the funio.com website.
  3. Look at the email header, reply-to address and destination of the email: is this the legitimate information from the company you deal with normally?
  4. Do the links provided in the email look familiar?

At Funio, we use the following standards to ensure you are dealing with us safely

  • Funio will only send you an email from an @funio.com email address
  • The Funio Customer Hub website address begins: https://hub.funio.com/
    – Note the use of https and .com
    – There is always a / (slash) after .com
  • Funio will never ask you for personal information, including passwords, by email.

If you receive a questionable email

  • Never provide your user ID, personal information or password in an email
  • Do not respond to emails threatening to close your account
  • Verify the destination of any links on the page before clicking them (mouse-over the link to see the true path)
  • To log in safely to our Customer Hub, and avoid using a direct link, go to the Funio Home page and follow the links to the Customer Hub.
  • When in doubt, contact Funio customer service: support@funio.com

If you suspect you have received a phishing attempt mimicking a Funio email, or our parent company iWeb, please contact customer service: support@funio.com
