Healthy Lifestyle. Prescription: Action! at the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie

For a second consecutive year, Funio is proud to sponsor Prescription: Action! for their participation in the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie! Maybe one day Funio will have at least 5 employees healthy and active enough to participate, but in the meantime, encouraging this team will have to be sufficient (and encouraging).

Funio is Sponsoring Who?

Prescription: Action! is a volunteer project launched by a group of doctors in the region of Edmundston (New Brunswick) that encourages the public to take action and improve your health. They suggest multiple free activities that favour physical activity and healthy eating. Translating from their site to clarify: “physical activity, weight loss, healthy eating and positive lifestyle habits have priceless impacts that often surpass taking medication. That is why the prescription we give to our population and our patients today is to take action”.

Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie?

The grand défi Pierre Lavoie is a renowned Canadian initiative that aims to motivate young people in adopting a healthier lifestyle by making beneficial choices. It also helps health awareness for parents that attempt to balance the every day with their children, by focusing on three key areas: physical activity, eating healthy and school perseverance. The annual 1000km bike ride across Quebec event is taking place this weekend (June 13 to 15), regrouping over 1000 cyclists and Pierre Lavoie himself.

A Word With The Team

We were graced with a moment to speak with Doctor Olga Leclerc who is participating in this year’s Grand Défi!

1. You are renewing your participation to the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie for a second year in a row! How is this year going to be different for you?

50 % of the team is different from last year’s. However, the previous participants contributed in coaching the new teammates when it came to how the event took place.

2. We are convinced that you are at the top of your physical conditions for the Défi this weekend. Can you describe your preparations?

There was a training program provided by the Grand Défi that was divided between individual cardio training (not just cycling) and bodybuilding during the winter (December to April), bike and group oriented workouts starting in April which included exterior training. It can be summarized to 5-6 training sessions of 45 minutes to 3 hours per week.

3. During the Grand Défi, what will keep you motivated? On what will you focus to confront those kilometres in front of you?

First, we are going to keep in mind the primary goal of the Défi, which is to show by example to younger generations to remain active. To us, this weekend is somewhat of a reward for all the efforts we have invested during our training. Finally, the feeling of accomplishment that we will have at the end of the Défi greatly helps us stay on track.

4. You are doctors, athletes and healthy lifestyle spokespersons. You are what is closest to what can define superheroes. How can we, and the people reading us, help support your cause?

Contrarily to what people might think, we are everyday people, with a full time job and some of us also have children. We hope that people will be able to identify with us at least a little, and that they will think: I can do that too!

In Closing

We would like to thank Doctor Olga Leclerc for taking the time to answer us. We wish good luck to all the Prescription: Action! team!

We also wish that you, faithful reader, opt for healthy choices and integrate physical activity and good foods in your daily routine.

You can still encourage the team here!
